MasterCard Worldwide is an American multinational corporation with its headquarters in the MasterCard International Global Headquarters in Harrison, New York, United States. Throughout the world, its principal business is to process payments between the banks of merchants and the banks of purchasers that use its MasterCard brand debit and credit cards to make purchases. MasterCard Worldwide has been a publicly traded company since 2006. Prior to its initial public offering, MasterCard Worldwide was a membership organization owned by the 25,000+ financial institutions that issue its card.

MasterCard, originally known as MasterCharge, was created by several California banks as a competitor to the BankAmericard issued by Bank of America, which later became the Visa credit card issued by Visa Inc. The original banks behind MasterCharge were United California Bank, Wells Fargo, Crocker National Bank , and the Bank of California.

Through a new partnership with an Internet company that specializes in personalized shopping, MasterCard introduced a Web shopping mall on April 16, 2010 that it says can pinpoint with considerable accuracy what its cardholders are likely to purchase.

The site, called MasterCard MarketPlace, relies on technology developed by Next Jump, a New York company that monitors customer behavior from thousands of retailers and uses the data it gathers to help merchants tailor their product offerings.

I have several credit cards and the one with the least amount of hassle is the USAA mastercard. They keep the APR at the lowest rate available, and they automatically lower it when they can. They are also very willing to work with their customers and you can easily get in touch with them for answers to your questions without being put on hold for a while. I highly recommend this card!

I have had the card for years. This company is customer friendly. If you have an issue, they are open to discuss it and really will help. I had some fees due to something that I had misunderstood, and had not noticed (due to me not looking closely at my bills for a few months....my fault) and they reversed 3 months of fees just to show good faith that I had just misunderstood something. Wow.

This card is great. The rewards are actually useful and have reasonable levels. I have never made a late payment, so I cannot comment on the consequences of that. They've raised my limit so high I will likely never go over it, as well. My APR is VERY low, about half of my other credit cards. I love this card and use it the most of all my cards, except when I travel to developing countries where MasterCard is not accepted.

Platinum MasterCard is just as terrible as possible. there is no grace period for purchases. This means that interest is applied immediately to any charges made with the card.
